Luke as the Messiah
Luke Skywalker is one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars saga for several reasons. First, he was a character that we could all find a connection to. Luke was the allegorical representation of the average American farm boy who pursued great feats in an attempt to seek something more in life. On a bigger scale, I would propose that he also represents the traditional biblical trope of the Messiah.
Just like Jesus Christ, Luke was a nobody when he first began on his journey to learning the ways of the force. Yet, by the end of his tedious ambition, Luke ends up redeeming his family legacy in a way that is reminiscent of Jesus' resurrection after his crucifixion. Throughout the films, Luke is
tempted by the darker side of the force. While this is appealing, Luke remains strong and continues to repel the forces that his father imposes on him. Luke's determination to see out his goal in the face of adversity is something that makes this narrative so compelling, and in Jesus' case, something that influences his followers to believe in something bigger than themselves.
