Darth Vader: The Death of the Old Regime
Darth Vader is one of the most interesting characters in the Star Wars canon. His dynamic character arc mixed with his overwhelmingly-strong prowess of the force makes Vader one of the key components of the films that makes them "work". As most Star Wars fans know (SPOILER ALERT), Darth Vader dies at the end of Episode 6 when he saves Luke's life. I would content that, in a literary sense, Vader's ultimate sacrifice is something that is not entirely foreign to literary works of the past. This trope of the "passing of the torch", or the transition from generation to generation is something at the forefront of strong narrative pieces, and it should be recognized that this transition is what makes the Skywalker saga so iconic. On top of this, Vader parts ways with his regime, leaving a legacy for Luke to fulfill on the light side.
